An Apple laptop will be ready to use for oral presentations. You can prepare your presentation in Apple Keynote, Microsoft PowerPoint (Mac 2016 and 2011 versions), or Adobe PDF formats. Please contact the LOC to upload your presentation file well before your session. You can also use your own laptop, but please make sure it works properly with our projector before your session begins.

We plan to upload all the presentation files in the web page of meeting. Please let us know in advance in case you do NOT want your file to be posted.

Poster information:

Posters will be displayed near the conference hall. They should not exceed A0 size, equivalent to 841x1189 mm or 33.1x46.8 inches, and should be presented in portrait orientation.

Proceedings:

The proceedings of the conference will be published in a special issue of the journal “Galaxies”. All proceedings contributions will go through a (mild) peer-reviewed processes, to meet the standards of the journal, and will be indexed in the ADS and Web of Science databases.

Information about preparing your contribution can be found in the web page of the journal. Further information regarding the page limits for each type of contribution will be provided during the meeting and posted in the web page. The deadline for submitting your contribution is July 15th, 2016.

Meals at the hotel of the meeting:

We remind all participants staying at the hotel of the meeting that the special rate provided by the hotel includes all meals (breakfast, lunch, dinner, and drinks/snacks in the bar of the swimming pool). Please contact the hotel for other special lunch offers it provides for those participants staying somewhere else.

Conference dinner:

The restaurant of the conference dinner requires an approximate number of people attending to the dinner with about a week notice (specially for big parties like ours), so we encourage all participants intending to attend to the conference dinner to book your ticket as soon as possible, if you haven’t done so already.

Note that there is an extra link in the left user's menu (once you log in using your meeting credentials) for extra payments related to the conference dinner or other social activities.

Buses will be provided to bring participants from the hotel of the meeting to the restaurant and back to the hotel after the dinner. Further information regarding the departure time from the hotel and restaurant will be given during the meeting.

There will be a concert at the end of the dinner featuring performances by Profs. Alan Marscher and Jim Webb. Please let us know if you wish to join the musical celebration for a grand finale!

Sightseeing excursions:

Please note that a minimum of 30 people is required for any of the sightseeing tours organized for Wednesday afternoon. If this number is not reached for your chosen tour the travel agency will offer you to either join some other excursion or get a reimbursement.

Blazars through Sharp Multi-Wavelength Eyes
Málaga (Spain), May 30 – June 3, 2016

FINAL ANNOUNCEMENT

Please note that Deadline for ABSTRACT SUBMISSION is APRIL 1st, 2016

The FINAL PROGRAM of the MEETING will be POSTED by APRIL 18th, 2016

Scientific rationale:
Blazars, the most extreme variety of active galactic nuclei (AGN) and the most luminous long-lived individual objects in the universe, continue to pose major astrophysical puzzles. This international conference will be devoted to recent progress in observational and theoretical aspects of blazars and advances in our understanding of the "big picture'' of the blazar phenomenon.

Blazars radiate across the electromagnetic spectrum from radio to gamma-ray frequencies. Observations of blazars require a variety of state-of-the-art instruments and techniques, while understanding jet formation and production of high-energy particles and photons is among the most prominent problems of modern astrophysics.

The timing of the conference is well matched to the availability of premier high-energy facilities, such as the Fermi Gamma-ray Space Telescope, the Chandra, Swift, NuSTAR, and Astrosat X-ray satellites, new high-resolution arrays such as the Event Horizon Telescope, RadioAstron, and ALMA, sensitive very high-energy gamma-ray Cherenkov detectors, and long-term monitoring with the Very Long Baseline Array, Global mm-VLBI Array, and optical-IR telescopes.

The meeting will have the extra motivation of celebrating Prof. Alan Marscher's contributions to blazar research.

The conference will start on Monday morning and will last until Friday lunch time. Wednesday afternoon will be free, and a number of different social events and sightseeing tours are being organized (see below).

Topics to be discussed include:
  • Jet formation, dynamics, and astrometry
  • Probes of blazar jets with the finest angular resolution through EHT, mm-VLBI, and RadioAstron observations
  • Multi-wavelength studies of blazars from theory and observations
  • Magnetic fields and polarization
  • Non-blazar AGN jets
Keynote talks:
Prof. Alan Marscher will present an especial talk with a “Retrospective view of the Blazar science”, while Prof. Esko Valtaoja will give an opening talk.

Other keynote presentations will be given by the invited speakers: I. Agudo, H. Aller, M. Aller, W. Benbow, M. Böttcher, T. Cheung, M. Cohen, V. Fish, D. Gabuzda, W. Gear, M. Georganopoulos, G.
